Valentine’s fundraiser raises more than $1,600 to feed the hungry
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Hands Together New York (formerly Lamplighters Community Volunteers) held ‘Have a Heart for Hunger’ fundraisers in Hicksville and Melville Hub on Long Island. And they were a great success … with generous employees raising more than $1,600 for Island Harvest, a local hunger relief organization.

Our colleague Jeanette Martone (System Mapping, Hicksville) is a gifted artist and dedicated humanitarian always helping others in need. And she donated her original artwork – ‘What is Home’ – for one of the raffles (see below).
Hands Together NY is a Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated and passionate about assisting the local community, while focusing on raising funds to help those struggling with issues of hunger or homelessness. Since 2005, Hands Together NY volunteers have held food drives and organized fundraisers (golf outings, ice cream socials, gift wrapping services, etc.) so they can raise funds to assist the community in need.

Hands Together NY fast fact: The Hicksville food rescue team rescued 47,120 lbs of food in 2013 (compared to 34,872 lbs in 2012). This increase resulted in supplementing 10,115 additional meals.
