Unprecedented achieves international recognition
Wins four top awards, including best overall class winner, at UK’s Institute of Internal Communications awards
National Grid’s Unprecedented publication, which commemorates US employees’ experiences during Superstorm Sandy, is only four months old and has already been recognized as a best in class communication by the UK’s Institute of Internal Communications (Central Region) at an awards ceremony held Friday, February 28.
In partnership with the book’s designers, 44 Communications (based in the UK), the Institute awarded Unprecedented best in class in four categories including Overall Class Winner for the whole event. The other top awards were for Best Print Design, Best Writing and Best Special Publication. The project also received Certificate of Merit awards for Electronic Design and Electronic Media.
Mailed to US employees in late October to observe the one-year anniversary of the storm, Unprecedented is dedicated to the memory of Anna Gesso, our co-worker in MetroTech, who lost her life the night Sandy struck.
“This is a well deserved honor, capturing the overall effort US employees made during this event, which was unlike anything we’ve ever had to deal with,” said Jim Madej, Senior VP and Chief Customer Officer in the US, whose area creatively supported and funded the project. “The sustained actions of our employees go right to the heart of serving our communities and customers.”
Clive Hawkins, Global Head of Employee Communications and Media Relations attended the ceremony and said: “Unprecedented brilliantly captures the spirit of our people whom worked tirelessly to meet the many needs of our customers – despite some having their own personal troubles around Sandy. I am thrilled the effort to commemorate that spirit has been recognized as best in class and is a just reward for all those who contributed toward it.”
Unprecedented was also entered in a number of US-based awards, with short-list announcements and ceremonies taking place later in the year.
National Grid was also awarded Class Winner in the Best Website/Intranet category for UK Connecting – the interactive publication available on our website that connects National Grid with its external stakeholders.
The UK’s Electricity Transmission Asset Management also was recognised for Best Electronic Media for their newsletters.
