This summer’s hottest renewable resource

By Dana Simone

“Thank you for hosting another wonderful blood drive at National Grid! You guys are GREAT!”

This was in a note from the blood center at Massachusetts General Hospital, but it’s a refrain we’re hearing in all regions this summer as employees company-wide are taking the time to donate blood. Blood supply typically dwindles in the summer months when regular donors are busy with vacations and warm weather activities. Of course, the need for blood never diminishes.

Every day patients need blood to stay alive. They are cancer patients, trauma and fire victims, and newborn babies. They are family members, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and customers. One thing is for certain. They will only get the blood they need if somebody donates it, for there is no substitute for blood.

When we donate blood, a vital, natural and renewable resource, we are giving the gift of life.

Already this summer, the following blood centers have benefitted from drives we’ve held across New England and New York, resulting in life-saving help for hundreds of patients in need: American Red Cross – MA, RI, DNY, UNY, Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, MA (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute & Brigham and Women’s Hospital), Long Island Blood Services, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Meet some of the employees who have made blood the hottest renewable resource this summer!
