That’s a lot of dough!

Bread Run founder Danielle Rubenfeld calls the plays on the sidelines next to referee Ed Brodsky.

Last year, our IT department in Hicksville sponsored a volunteer activity, based on an organization founded by former intern Danielle Rubenfeld. (Read all about it here.) The Bread Run event was such a smashing success – in terms of both pure fun and dollars raised for charity – we did it again!

That’s right, on September 20, dozens of employees on teams with names like Bad to the Scone, Going A-Rye and Baguette About It once again donned their bakers’ hats, ready for hard-hitting action as they attempted to steal hard-plastic bread from their opponents. That’s ‘capture the flag’ fun, Bread Run-style.

Best part, we raised more than $10,000 in combined employee and company donations for Island Harvest and the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) – bringing our two-year total to more than $22,000! Some lucky prize drawing winners won some pretty ‘sweet swag’ too– from iPads, to gift certificates.

And you can hear talk in the IT Hicksville hallways already about Bread Run 3. Stay tuned!

In the meantime … check out the local coverage we got on Fios1 News for the event, which was filled with employee participants, spectators, local radio station WKJY (K-98.3), a Panera Bread booth, Island Harvest representatives and more. All on the Hicksville ‘back 40’ bocce league lawn.

That’s Alanna Russo addressing the large, pre-game crowd. Power Generation Operations VP Jim Flannery also spoke.

Avi Kalban drew the lucky prize drawing winners’ names.

That’s Fran’s Hoagies having fun – Neetu Sahansra, Duane Bloomfield, Fran DiLeonardo, Carie Manticos, Breana Reid, Christina Gunpat and Malcolm Minott

Team Cookee Dough 2018 got a nice ‘shout-out’ from Island Harvest for their involvement with our Hands Together NY volunteer group (whose logo they proudly displayed on their shirts and which works closely with Island Harvest as their largest local ‘food rescuer’). Shown (l-r, back row, then front) are team members and friends: Wendy Ladd, Avi Kalban, Captain (Ellen) Cooke, Nancy Hofsiss, Ron Wilson, Don Eklund, Domenick Graziani, Lakmal Egodawatte and (official team and event Bread Mascot) Marilyn Reid

Toasted won the gold medal for the second year in a row – shown (l-r) are: Rocco Potts, Harold Pinsker, Mike O’Connell, Mike Carvalho, Don Rera (voted MVP winning Panera’s yearlong bread award), Terry Ulmer and Elaine Hatzis
