Taking volunteerism to new heights

Transmission Line Services New England (TLS) has been working on several projects in and around Palmer, Mass. for the past several months. So when Steve Kosmider, a National Grid colleague who works at the Monson distribution facility, told four TLS supervisors about a problem at a popular local sports venue, they conducted a risk analysis of the work required and then went into action.

On a recent Monday, supervisors Ron Maesto, Ted Girard, Dan Davis, and Glenn Harper descended on St. Joseph’s Field to volunteer their time to replace several high-sodium vapor lamps and repair one of the light fixtures. This field supports high school football programs from multiple communities, local Pop Warner football teams, and local Babe Ruth and men’s senior baseball leagues.

“The guys did a great job for the local communities, especially the kids,” Said Nick Gibson, manager, TLS New England. “This is literally what we mean when we say National Grid is here with you, here for you.”
