Is sitting the new smoking? Prolonged sitting is considered by some cardiologists as harmful to health as tobacco use. The impact of slow fat and sugar metabolism, weight gain, muscle weakness and spine compression are as detrimental to health.

Standing and walking during the day even for short periods of time can help:

  • Improve circulation
  • Relieve low back pressure and pain
  • Improve your energy level and alertness
  • Burn calories

If you spend most of the day sitting at your desk, today’s the day to take a stand!

  • Stand up at least 5 minutes every hour and/or during phone calls
  • Go for a walk at lunch time
  • Take the long route to water cooler and rest rooms
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Park further from the building
