Serving our veterans

By Tim Rondeau

On Friday, November 11th, we honor all of our nation’s veterans, past and present.  It is a day on which we pause to remember the sacrifices made by our brave men and women in uniform.  Veterans’ issues are very important to National Grid and our support of said issues becomes more expansive each year.

Kicking off in September, National Grid’s New England Customer Care team raised over $900 dollars to fill and ship care packages to our troops overseas.

The NE Customer Care team raised even more funds in October and November.  With the monies raised, exactly 778 heat efficient blankets were purchased and donated to Veterans, Inc., a New England based non-profit that provides services to “homeless and in-need veterans and their family members.” Jurisdictional presidents Marcy Reed (MA) and Tim Horan (RI) were on hand to present the blankets to Veterans, Inc in Worcester and Pawtucket, respectively.

Moreover, Customer Care collected over 250 sets of hats and 150 pairs of socks to benefit Family Services of RI and over 180 sets of hats for Worcester Community Action Council.

Finally, the company was a major sponsor at Waterfire Providence’s “Salute to Veterans.” Tim Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island and a veteran himself, participated in the torch procession with other employee veterans.

To our treasured veterans: we salute you this Veterans Day and every day.
