Running for a cause at Rocky Point

By Dan Pieroni

The overcast sky and dreary weather did not dampen the spirits of those who took part in the fifth annual Rocky Point 5K Road Race on Saturday June 17 in Warwick.

We were a race sponsor for the fourth year in a row and while many employees volunteered, seven donned running shoes for the course along the shoreline of scenic Narragansett Bay.

Ray Sheridan, a Warwick native and manager in O&M, has been a participant since the race’s inception. Ray said that he was “happy to finish.”

James Ferns from Operational Engineering, placed third in the Male Masters (60-69) division with a time of 22:39.

Company volunteer efforts were spearheaded by Marisa Albanese, manager of Community and Customer Management for Rhode Island, and the co-coordinator of volunteers for the race itself.

“The Rocky Point 5k is a great way to participate in a local community event that raises money for worthy causes and it’s a great team building experience for those who volunteer” said Albanese.

This year, proceeds from the race are going to the Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England, and the state chapter of the American Cancer Society.
