“Drive Safely…It’s definitely worth it!”

That’s the motto that Mike DelVecchio, of Gas Field Operations in Hewlett lives by when he’s on the road. Mike was awarded the 2018 Lytx Driver of the Year Award in the utility industry by DriveCam. Over 350 nominations were submitted across six industry categories for Driver and Coach of the Year across the country. Mike recently reached a 15 year career milestone and takes his driving role at National Grid very seriously.

According to his supervisor Lou Casucci, “Mike continues to be one of the safest drivers in the Hewlett yard. His job assignment has him covering many miles during the course of his shift. He knows the area very well and maps out his routes before he rolls. He maintains a distraction free cab as well as keeping his vehicle clean and organized both inside and out.”

Mike admits he wasn’t always a superb driver but with the introduction of DriveCam along with the Online Driver Classes and Smith Driver Training, Mike has really kept a focus on his driving. The DriveCam technology was installed into National Grid Gas vehicles in 2010. The devices inside the vehicles are activated by force (braking, cornering, rough road or on impact).

Mike is vocal in his yard about driving safely and has helped several of his co-workers improve their driving focus. Mike was also the Safe Driving Campaign winner when he stopped by the distracted driving roadshow table back in 2015 – winning a pair of tickets to go see the Mets at Citi Field.  Congratulations Mike and thanks for being an excellent example of safe driving for all of us!
