One morning last week, Mike Ruiz, director of Customer and Community Management, DNY and Keith Rooney, manager, Gas Controls, Melville, joined on-air personality Donna Vaughan on WALK-FM to discuss a few campaigns happening across the company.

Mike and Keith spoke about National Work Zone Awareness week, April 11-15, encouraging the public to be careful driving by work zones. The theme of this year’s campaign, headed by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) is “Don’t Be That Driver”. The underlying message – we want all our employees to go home safely at the end of the day.

Keith, a military veteran, discussed recruiting veterans for employment at National Grid. He stressed that the key attributes managers look for in a potential employee are enthusiasm, discipline, integrity and a can-do attitude. We participate in the Troops to Energy Jobs Initiative, an industry-wide effort that speeds up the process for bringing military veterans into the energy industry workforce across the U.S.

Mike and Keith also talked about gas expansion projects on Long Island, gas safety, AMR and Dig Safe.
