National Grid is behind STEM education in a big way, encouraging and supporting growth in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. STEM education is critical to ensuring a strong workforce of the future – and National Grid employees who are passionate about sharing their own STEM journey are critical to that mission.
In western New York, Lisa Montesano is one such employee. A lead engineer in Environmental Services, Lisa exemplifies the achievements of the path she helps to promote. Among the many STEM events to which Lisa’s contributed, she recently served as a panelist on Niagara University’s Institute of Applied Learning’s Young Women’s STEM Camp, sponsored by National Grid.
“Lisa does tremendous work for us in supporting our various STEM initiatives,” said Ken Kujawa, NY Jurisdiction Manager – West. “Her commitment and excitement really translate for the young people she talks with. The students see Lisa as an example of success, and it helps to open their minds about their own possibilities.”
“I do it for the kids,” says Lisa, “but of course you can’t do something like that without getting something back. When I see their faces light up, that’s all it takes to make my day.”
