It’s a family affair in Bay Shore, Long Island
It’s no surprise that Maryah Nardone, the only female utility mechanic in Gas Field Operations on Long Island, takes pride in giving back to her hometown of Bay Shore. After all, her father, Greg Nardone, a Manager in CMS, has done much for the Bay Shore community over the years through involvement in the school system and St. Patrick’s Church, among other ventures.
On the morning of May 13, Maryah discussed National Grid careers and natural gas safety with the students of her sister Amy Nardone at Bay Shore Middle School’s 6th Grade Career Discovery Day. Maryah, a former physical education teacher, was joined by her partner Mike Walters, Manager Margaret Dugan and Lee Westerlind and Kiel Castella of Customer and Community management. Each had a chance to talk to Amy’s students about their career path, what’s involved in their day-to-day jobs and how National Grid keeps the gas flowing to homes and businesses safely and reliably.
After the classroom session, the students went outside and had a firsthand look at the tools and other equipment on Maryah and Mike’s gas utility truck. They also received a set of safety sunglasses and packets on natural gas safety from Lee and Kiel. All in all, it was a fun and educational day for students, National Grid employees and the teachers!
