Fresh diapers for a cause
In May the Customer Care outreach team in Northboro joined forces with the North Andover office and the NE Control Center to host a diaper drive and raise funds for Anchor of Hope, a diaper bank within the National Grid footprint that serves local families in need.
Facts indicate that:
- 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers for their children
- 22% of children live in poverty in the US
- 4% of families surveyed cut back on basics in order to purchase diapers
A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated in diaper drive and other fundraising activities, including the Red Sox ticket prize drawing and Control Center Dress Down.
The collective efforts culminated in the collection of 2,800 diapers plus an additional cash donation of $775, which Anchor of Hope will use to purchase additional supplies. This will help provide 160 children and their families with the basic essentials to maintain their health and wellbeing.
Claire Hailson, Founder and Executive Director of Anchor of Hope Diaper Bank, knows firsthand what a big impact it makes on the lives of families and how grateful they are to receive the diapers.
“I am overwhelmed by the kindness of National Grid and their employees,” said Claire. “Our organization relies on the generosity of our community to help us make a positive change in the lives of families in need. Thank you National Grid and your employees for being part of that change!”
