Employees run for charity at the Marcum Challenge
This year was one of the best National Grid turnouts at the annual Marcum Workplace Challenge, a charity run and company picnic at Jones Beach. Over 100 runners/walkers came out for a healthy competition along the 3.5 mile course.
A staple every year is James Flannery, Vice President of Generation, who led the team and ran with his wife Marge. Local 1049 and Brooklyn employees were strongly represented along with LI Downstate Gas Operations, Marketing and Sales Fulfillment, Engineering, Internal Audit and Generation, Customer and Community, and Strategic Communications.
“We had great weather this year, it was a cool night perfect for the runners,” said Phil Echevarrio, Manager of Field Operations, who organized the event this year and ran. “It’s a great event for everyone to get some exercise, enjoy a BBQ, and catch up with co-workers outside of the office. It’s a fun night for a good cause.”
The event has raised more than $700,000 for Long Island charities supporting The Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM), Children’s Medical Fund of New York, Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, and The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The event brings out more than 12,000 participants every year from LI businesses.
