Educating the next generation of clean energy employees

By Wendy Ladd

We recently announced the second training program with Kingsborough Community College (KCC) to educate the next generation of clean energy employees. The “National Grid Natural Gas Certificate Program” is another in a series of unique one-of-a-kind training programs in the industry and is launching in February for KCC students. Each student will receive unprecedented on-the-job training to learn the procedures required to eventually work in the field on our natural gas system. This certificate program has already been proven successful in training and hiring students from Farmingdale State College.

This is the second partnership program between National Grid and KCC. The first training initiative was the “Customer Management Experience Program” (CXM) which trained college students with the skills necessary to start their careers in customer care. That program serves as a steady pipeline of diverse, competent and career-driven candidates who acquire the technical, social, and management skills for Customer Care positions in NYC. The program is well underway and graduates that have been hired by National Grid and other companies are already showing great results.
