Crews from Upstate NY Head South
More than 300 National Grid employees and 100 vehicles—including our mobile command unit departed on Tuesday, September 12th to support Duke Energy and Tampa Electric in their response efforts to Hurricane Irma.
About 40 employees are from Eastern New York. Those crews left this morning from the New York State Thruway. Electric Line Worker Mike Peters was one of those taking the opportunity to help out those in need.
Following any event that causes widespread power outages, electric companies must respond safely, swiftly, and efficiently to restore service to affected customers. Given the size and strength of Hurricane Irma, the storm is likely to be one of the largest industry restoration efforts in U.S. history.
