A slam dunk!

Gracing the hardwood during a recent NBA G League basketball game, National Grid went hard in the paint. Taking center court three times during the game – being recognized for our corporate community service, honoring our Veterans and hitting the high notes – we drained a triple.

United Way’s Mission United night was a great way to honor, and remember, all of those who served and those in need during Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving. The event was held at NYBC Live Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where United Way and the Long Island Nets recognized their corporate and labor partners. We were honored, both for supporting Veterans and for our commitment to community service.

During a special half-time center court presentation, Bob DeMarinis (3rd from left) accepted our company’s Corporate Community Service award from United Way. Our Vice President of Maintenance and Construction NY Gas Operations is a long-time United Way Board member and Veteran. Bob was accompanied by IBEW 1049 Representative Ron Bauer and Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

Veterans of the night, our own US Coast Guard veteran Bart Polizzoti with Bethpage Federal Credit Union’s US Army veteran, Richard Burgess.

Jennifer Papazian, Project Engineer Designer, stole the show singing the National Anthem. Her beautiful voice filled the coliseum, wowing the crowd. She is so talented, she even auditioned for The Voice.

Kids from National Grid were on the court before the game, giving out good luck high-fives to the players as they came onto the court. The kids then held up the National Grid Mission United banner and were on the jumbotron. They even practiced making a few baskets of their own in the Kid Zone.

The LI Nets did us proud by winning a nail biting game against the Capital City Go-Go’s 128-127.
It was a great night honoring our Veterans and the company, to remind us what we all have to be thankful for.
