A night out on the town for a deserving first responder

By Wendy Ladd

Long Island newlyweds Johnny and Erika Sosa are just starting their lives together in Roslyn Heights and what better way to celebrate than a night out.

Erika saw a contest we sponsor three times a year with NYCB Nassau Veteran Memorial Coliseum to recognize people who make a difference in their communities. We were looking for an outstanding first responder and Erika thought her husband definitely fit the bill. Johnny Sosa is a police officer at the Federal Reserve Bank in Manhattan. He served two tours in the Marine Corp as a canine bomb detecting handler in Afghanistan, then went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree. “He is always thinking about others before himself. No one deserves something good to happen to him like he does,” she says.

The Surprise & Delight VIP Gift Package is four tickets to an event of their choice at the Coliseum and a night’s stay at the nearby Long Island Marriott in Uniondale. Although there were other nominations, Erika’s stood out and Johnny was selected.

The surprise was difficult to arrange because Johnny works nights. She convinced him she needed a ride to work in the morning and wanted him to meet some of her coworkers. When he opened the door to her office, he heard ‘Surprise!’

Juan Santiago, a Veteran, and manager in the Customer and Community group, and a representative from Nassau Coliseum, along with family and coworkers, congratulated Johnny. It took a minute for him to figure out what he had won and then he was ecstatic. He isn’t sure what he and his wife will go see, but they are excited for the opportunity to relax and have some fun.

Washington Criollo in the CMS group is a past winner of the Surprise & Delight award.

That’s Juan Santiago and Emily Panasowich, Community Relations Manager, BSE Global, with Johnny.
