811 Day hits it out of the park
Whether you’re a professional excavator or weekend warrior, a simple phone call could save you from big headaches. Damage to underground utility equipment. Potentially costly fines. Service interruptions. Most importantly, calling 8-1-1 to mark out your underground facilities – before you dig – could keep you and your family out of harm’s way. And, it’s the law.
To celebrate National Safe Digging day on 8/11, we teamed up with NY 811 to work with the Long Island Ducks, NY Mets and NY Yankees broadcasters to spread the message at all the games that day – Calling before you dig is always a winning play.
Our new Call Before you Dig video features Safety’s Bob Terjersen, who gets a great lesson from a group of precocious little kids! The video was shown at the Ducks game in front of more than 5,600 fans. The first 1,500 fans also received Ducks and National Grid co-branded t-shirts and rally towels. And, we saluted first responders, who were honored at the game and threw out the first pitch.
Our due diligence on safe digging was recognized by the NY Public Service Commissioner, who tweeted at us. It also happened to be Senior Supervisor of Field Operations Steve Quesada’s 30th work anniversary (in photo below, bottom row on right). He celebrated in good company with coworkers and QuackerJack the duck.
