We’re #2 – and proud!
Congratulations to members of our Syracuse-based United Way fundraising team! Two members of the group, Carolyn King from the Customer Team, and Bryan Zulberti from Shared Services, were recently nominated for the United Way of Central New York’s Campaign Coordinator of the Year Award.
“The National Grid United Way campaign is the second largest employee campaign in the CNY area,” said Carolyn, “but just like Avis, it means we try harder!”
All that hard work is being recognized, and the two will find out later in the month if they have won the award at a regional ceremony. Shamilla Wiley, of IBEW Local 97c will attend on behalf of the two nominees to represent the team-based approach to the fundraising efforts, which includes participation from groups across the Syracuse National Grid footprint.
Brian and Carolyn spearhead many creative fundraising campaigns throughout the year across 13 site locations. Notable was the 4th Annual Cook-off Competition, modeled on the TV show “Chopped,” a Halloween Candy Collection drive, a “Game of Scones” event, a “Step-up Challenge,” and a Hope for the Holidays Newspaper Sale, which raised a significant amount of funds for the program. These funds support vital education, health and poverty-reduction programs in our communities. Only the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center tops National Grid in terms of fundraising in the CNY area – but Carolyn and Brian have their sights set on #1 for next year.
“I want to send a big thank you to Carolyn and Brian for their effort and support of United Way,” said Doneen Hobbs, VP US Shared Services. “They provide such leadership for National Grid in supporting the Central NY United Way, and I really appreciate all they do. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they win this year. They definitely deserve it!”
The ceremony takes place on April 27th – we’ll keep you posted on the outcome!
